The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Yobe State, north-east Nigeria, Mr Habu Zarma, has confirmed that elections were not held in 18 wards in Gaidam Local Government Areas of the State.
Speaking to Channels Television in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, the REC said that insecurity was responsible for the lack of election in the affected polling units.
He also revealed that non arrival of electoral materials in 18 polling units in Fika, Potiskum and Yunusari Local Government Areas of Yobe State also affected the conduct of the exercise as scheduled.
The extension of the election, according to Mr Zarma, affected 10 units of Fika Local Government Area as well as four units each in Potiskum and Yunusari Local Government Areas of the State.
With the arrival of the electoral materials according to the REC, electionsare currently going on in the affected units of Potiskum, Fika and Yunusari Local Government Areas of the State.The commission, according to Mr Zarma, “would meet to consider the position of the affected units in Geidam Local Government Area of the State.”
